The Internet has evolved from what it was 10 years ago. If you want to stay in business online, it’s not enough just to have your company’s presence or a long sales page. The engagement of your customers is becoming a key element.
When they come to the Internet, people don’t just look for information or to buy things anymore, they come to interact with others. And it is the key for successful businesses to give their customers what they are looking for.
To survive in online business today, you have to take advantage of social networks and social marketing. The straightforward idea is to use those existing big networks to market your business. That’s one way to do it, but to take the technology at its fullest most of the biggest social networking websites have too strict of policies. In fact, what they allow business to do is just a tip of an iceberg.
To take full advantage of social networks is a difficult task, and it usually means stepping over the line of the rules. It’s a pity, the vast business resources remain untapped.
To address the issue, many Internet marketers have tried to come up with solutions. The black hat followers are finding ways to go around the rules, however it’s a risky way, and no serious business would ever risk their brand. Meanwhile legit marketers have chosen to build their own social networking communities.
It is an easy task technically. But to create an active community is not just about software. To be successful, you need to find your customers, to engage them and eventually to sell to them.
In every kind of marketing, these methods are somewhat similar, yet their difference is essential. And if you aren’t familiar with any of them, your out of luck. To really leverage on social networking for your business, it takes big investments, a lot of time and effort.
